Fun with food for kids

by bethpc on May 19, 2010

Last night was one of those nights when I didn’t have a dinner plan, so I had to throw it together.  I usually have a pretty complete plan, so when I improvise without a lot of forethought, sometimes I have to sell my concoction as the real deal.

I put together some deli turkey slices, but I was pretty sure that slabs of turkey sandwich meat were not going to pass muster with the kids.  So I had this brilliant idea:

I rolled the turkey up and tied it with a long slice (from a peeler) of a carrot.  The kids LOVED it.  The 6 year old kept saying, “Thanks for the present, Mom!”  The 3 year old took the carrot off, rolled it up, and pretended it was a UFO.

Needless to say, dinner was a success.

Those roll-ups are such a cute idea.

I wanted to answer your question. The hairstyle was just a french braid in the front, but it’s a really loose one. Hope that helps. Thanks so much for stopping by my blog!

Awesome idea! That reminds me of those cartoons from the 70s about eating healthy snacks. Remember the “I hanker for a hunk of cheese” song, where the character put a circular piece of cheese between two ritz crackers and said, “look, it’s a wagon wheel.” Those were the days . . .
