The Gruesome Killings are Back

by Beth on April 20, 2011

It’s started again.

The bloody evidence has begun to appear around my house.

Something’s getting killed.

If you recall, last year I began noticing that there were bloodstains appearing all over my front and backyard, and I couldn’t clean them off with anything.  And they just kept appearing.  But then, as suddenly as this serial killer began, it kind of stopped.

And now, it’s happening all over.

Yesterday, I found this on my front porch:

And then I started looking around a little more, and I discovered way more spots on the brick pathway.  They were kind of hidden in the pattern of the brick, but once I started looking around, it was pretty unmistakable:

In the backyard, we discovered some spots when we were cleaning up from a silly string war between the boys.  That was a bit of a rude awakening.

So, maybe now it’s springtime, the murderer is back.  I still haven’t gotten what I consider a satisfying suggestion for what on earth is killing and being killed in my backyard.  I assume I never find carcasses because they are being eaten.  But we have a fence around our whole backyard, so I don’t think anything big like a coyote could get in.  And if it did, I think we’d hear it or find other evidence.  The only wildlife I’ve seen around my house is the traditional suburban collection: skunks, raccoons, squirrels.  We probably have some small desert rats, too, although I’ve never seen them.  I have heard an owl on several occasions, and that’s my best guess as to what is doing the killing.

So, good readers, do you have any ideas?  What’s going on around my house, and should I invest in some kind of Paranormal Activity-style night cam equipment?

No chance that you’re suffering from desert-rat-eating silly string zombies?

It is entirely possible, Kathy.
