Actually, I’m way behind the curve, here, but that always happens. It’s hard to nail down what the boys want to be for Halloween.
But they’ve chosen, and my work is cut out for me.
They both want to be Skylanders, which is like, WHY? But you know I love making their costumes for them, so I’m embarking on the journey.
If you are unfamiliar with Skylanders, it’s a video game that has the most brilliant marketing on the planet. You buy the game, but you have to have these these little action figures to play, and there are 32 (with more on the way!) different figures you can buy. So you are constantly spending more money on these little guys.
Skylanders are popular enough that you can buy a few costumes, but only the three main guys that come with the initial system. Of course, my kids want to be the obscure guys. No worries.
The 9 year old chose Wham Shell, who looks like this:

Although I’ve never done this before, this year I figured I needed a serious plan. So I actually sketched out the costumes to figure out what I’d need. People, I am baring my soul to you here, because I’m exceedingly embarrassed at my lack of sketching skills. I’ve always wanted to be able to draw better. I suppose with practice that could happen, but for now, I suck. So I know these sketches look like a third grader did them, but go with it. Don’t laugh at me. Or at least only laugh at me behind my back.

In my mind, I try to imagine that this drawing looks like one from Leonardo Da Vinci’s notebooks.

The only part I’m a little worried about are the wings. Everything else I think I can make. I got some experience last year making a shell-type costume when the then-5 year old wanted to be Bowser Jr:
So I think I can pull together the shell for Wham Shell. I pinned one tutorial for making dragon wings, but you know what? There aren’t a lot of tutorials for making dragon wings out there. Who’da thunk?
So, I’m prepping for Halloween. Today I will go purchase all supplies and then start constructing.
What costumes do you have going on for Halloween? I’m dying to know.

Wow! I can’t wait to see what you come up with! I would be quite intimidated! I am almost done my son’s LEGO Ninjago Cole ZX (Not just regular Cole, but Cole ZX, of course). But I am starting with purchased fleece pants, top and ski mask and adding a belt and basically a vest for the … I have no idea what it actually is… armor. It was a little challenging to replicate something that is pictured on a tiny, boxy LEGO guy but so far, so good.
