A Few More Barrettes…

The small business saga continues.

I’ve been making more barrettes, designing and trying to figure out what the core “line” will be.  I’ve got some photos of the crocheted flower ones now, so I’m going to share a few more products:

I’ve got to get them up on the shop, so… soon.

I also got my business checking account and accounting software.  Holy moley, when did software get so expensive?  I figured it would set me back $50, maybe $80 at the most?  HELLO, $230!!!  That’s highway robbery, people.  After all, it is software for small businesses.

While at the Apple store, I also purchased my birthday gift, even though my birthday isn’t until next month.  But I want to use it for the biz, too, so I wanted it sooner rather than later.  Welcome, new iPad!  I love you just as much as I thought I would.

I figured maybe I should talk to a business specialist at the store– isn’t there some kind of discount for businesses when you are on the inside?  Didn’t the Republicans do anything for me?  So they hooked me up with a business sales associate, and I have to tell you, he is not doing them any favors.  He nearly convinced me not to buy an iPad.  I’m not even sure what his point was, but he kept going on about how easily they break, how the average lifespan of an iPad is 90 days (WTF?  where does he get his stats?), and how he’s already gone through three.  His main point is that people drop them all the time, so they break.  Which I will not do.  But why is this a good sales tactic?  I was so stunned I didn’t know what to say, and anyway I was too busy trying to figure out why he was telling me all this terrible information.  I think, maybe, that he was trying to explain why it was good to get on the business “list,” because I think you don’t get a discount until you reach $5000 in purchases, so I guess he figured if he told me I’d have to buy $5000 worth of iPads over the next year I’d be in.  But… I found his approach to be off-putting, at the least.

But I bought my iPad anyway and immediately put a cool inventory/sales app on it so that I can use it at boutiques and whatnot.  I have a few more of those before the holidays are over.  So we’ll see if the iPad is indispensable or if it just breaks.  Right now, at least it’s fun to play Words with Friends on it.

More listings at the Etsy store soon, I hope.

Thanks for reading, y’all.

You call it an early birthday present, I call it a business expense. Meaning? You still get a fabulous birthday gift!

These are great additions to your store — I particularly love the paisley! And kudos on the new iPad (I have been jonesing for a new computer, so I am envious).

So cute!! I love these. And you totally needed that iPad! Funny that the guy tried to talk you out of it.
