DIY Ombre Ring Necklace

Here’s a secret: this is a necklace I made before I did the Olympic rings one. It was what inspired the one for the Games; after seeing how this looked, it made me think of the rings and the rest is history. I wanted to share this one, too, because it’s a great project for making an everyday necklace.

All the techniques you need you can find in the tutorial for the Olympic rings necklace. The only differences here were that I chose Chinese knotting cord in three hues that, when placed together, created this ombre effect. You could also choose 5 different hues, or, if you don’t like the ombre effect, any colors of your choice, obvy.

Instead of wrapping the rings together with wire so the entire piece was solid, here I simply attached each ring to the others with jump rings. I like the way it hangs, and it creates movement so the necklace isn’t quite as rigid. Again, you could create any kind of pattern, not just the row of rings.

I’m thinking about taking this idea to the bracelet world, so stay tuned for that.

Happy day!
